Having begun in the early 1990’s, the development of contemporary art in Armenia as an institution, could not further progress without the development of professional curatorship in the field. Having curators who are responsible for organizing exhibitions, from writing proposals to publishing catalogues, would help to create a healthier and more communicative atmosphere between artists and art critics on the one hand, and the art community and society on the other. Professional curators not only organized exhibitions that corresponded to international standards but enhanced the communication between Armenian artists and critics and their international counterparts as well.

The National Association of Art Critics (AICA Armenia) started to organize international summer schools and seminars for curators in Yerevan, Armenia. This initiative was first of its kind in Armenia, where local, regional and foreign colleagues had an opportunity to gain some professional tools to able to practice and further the field.
